A busy week editing my WIP The River Brings the Sea, helped by a really useful Zalon (Salon on Zoom) on Monday evening from Words Away. Plot holes and saggy middles was led by author and writing tutor, Emma Darwin who is always great at making complex ideas comprehensible. Her original blog on all things to do with writing fiction, This Itch of Writing is full of advice as well as her trademark good humour.
Getting the proportions right is what I’ve taken away from the Zalon – don’t spend pages on a scene which is pretty insignificant in the whole story, then skim over a major turning point in a few paragraphs. Sounds obvious? Yes, but now I understand where I’m going wrong. More work!
